About the courses

1. Master in Business Administration (MBA)

The MBA programme offers the opportunity of accelerated career progression through a well-established and internationally recognised management qualification. It is designed to satisfy the increasing demand world-wide for effective professional managers. The following specialisms are possible through electives on the Full-time or Executive MBA only: Entrepreneurship, Hospitality and Tourism, Information Technology Management, Marketing, Publishing or Real Estate and Construction.

The MBA is designed to expand your knowledge of business in general and key business disciplines. It will also help to develop the necessary skills to formulate and implement strategic responses to challenges facing senior management.

The Full-time MBA regularly attracts students from over 35 countries. MBA provision is accredited by the Association of MBA's (AMBA).

2. Master of Science in International Management (MSc)

This course focuses on the integrative nature of international business and management. It aims to give students an appreciation of the dynamic nature of the global business environment, the decision making faced by international managers, and the competencies and cultural adaptation required for success. Wide choice of electives enables students to specialise.

Students are recruited world-wide, allowing a unique opportunity to share multi-cultural experiences both academically and socially.

3a. Master of Science in Business and Enterprise (MSc)

This degree offers graduates from virtually any discipline an opportunity to study business and enterprise at postgraduate level. These subjects are in great demand across the world from organisations competing in the highly dynamic and competitive environment.

Students who have not studied business and/or those without work experience are particularly welcomed as there is an opportunity for gaining valuable work experience built into the programme. There is a wide choice of electives.

3b. Master of Science in Innovation and Creativity

This programme helps prepare you for a career in organisational innovation and transformation.

Innovation, creativity and enterprise are three inter-linked concepts that for many organisations, operating within the global economy, represent the essence of competitive advantage. Students are recruited world-wide for both programmes, allowing a unique opportunity to share multi-cultural experiences both academically and socially.

4. Master of Science in International Hotel and Tourism Management (MSc)

This programme focuses on the management of international hotel and tourism organisations. It is suitable for students who have a good bachelors degree in hotel, tourism or management subjects and want to pursue a career in hotel & restaurant management. Students should have a minimum one-year's work experience in appropriate companies.

5. Master of Science in International Travel and Tourism Management (MSc)

The broad aim of the programme is to provide you with personal, intellectual and professional development and an informed understanding of the international travel and tourism management. You will be introduced to a range of concepts and theories, which will enable you to analyse tourism contexts applicable within national and international situations. The course will explore current and future trends in travel and tourist management, enabling you to further develop your analytical and decision-making skills, and encourage reflective practice. This programme has been designed to enable graduates with non-tourism degrees to study tourism at a postgraduate level without having had specific work experience in the industry. The programme also provides an opportunity for tourism graduates to further develop their knowledge and understanding of tourism by studying at the masters' level.

6. Master of Science in International Hotel and Tourism Marketing Management (MSc)

Marketing and the management of demand is especially important to hotel and tourism organisations. This programme is designed to appeal to students interested in studying hospitality and tourism marketing at postgraduate level. Work experience in the hotel or tourism industry or marketing profession is required (normally 1 year)

7. Master of Science in International Strategic Management

This course prepares you for a career in business management.

In order to remain competitive in a dynamic global business environment, managers need to think strategically and respond flexibly. This degree provides you with the knowledge and skills to confidently make an effective contribution.

Accreditation by The Association of MBAs (AMBA)

In September 2005 the MSc in International Strategic Management was one of the first Masters (non MBA) degrees to be accredited by the Association of MBAs (AMBA).

8. MSc Business Administration (subject to validation)

This one year, taught, full time Masters degree in Business Administration has been designed for those who have not formally studied for a degree in Business and who would like to increase their understanding of a range of business subjects. Core subjects studied include finance and accounting, organisational theory, business operations and business strategy. In addition to these, students can choose from a range of options in areas such as human resource management, marketing, and economics as well as undertaking a dissertation.

9. MSc International Business Economics

This one year, taught, full time Masters degree in International Business Economics has been designed for students who have not formally studied for a degree in Economics or Business and who would like to both increase their understanding of a range of business and economic subjects and specialise in International Business Economics.

The International Business Economics course provides an opportunity for students to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to appreciate such intricate relationships and understand how global business institutions operate.

10. MSc Finance (subject to validation)

This one year, taught, full time Masters degree in Finance provides a key to understanding financial decisions in business corporations and the operation of financial markets and institutions. If you are interested in a career in finance in a corporation or in a financial organisation then this is the course for you.

The MSc Finance is open to graduates with a wide variety of backgrounds including those who may have studied elements of accounting and finance before.

11. MSc Business and Accounting (subject to validation)

The MSc Business with Accounting and Finance one year, full time, taught masters degree has been designed for those who have not formally studied for a degree in Business and who would like to increase their understanding of a range of business subjects and then use this learning as a basis for greater specialisation in the area of Accounting and Finance.

12. MSc International Trade and Logistics (subject to validation)

This one year, taught, full time Masters degree in International Trade and Logistics is for students who appreciate that the effective management of international supply chains is a key element of success in global business.

13. Certificate in Management (CM) (Part-time 1 year)

The Certificate in Management (CM) is a first-level management programme which leads to a nationally recognised qualification and provides a solid foundation in management. Candidates who successfully complete the CM are eligible for direct entry to year two of the Diploma in Management Studies (DMS), the Diploma in Human Resource Management and it may also be possible to enter an MBA programme.

14. Diploma in Management Studies (DMS) (Part-time 2 years)

The Diploma in Management Studies (DMS) is a well established and internationally recognised postgraduate management qualification. The first year of the DMS programme consists of the Certificate in Management course. The Diploma extends the length and breadth of issues covered at Certificate level.

15. Diploma in Human Resource Management (DHRM) (Part-time 2 years)

The Diploma in Human Resource Management (DHRM) is a well established and nationally recognised postgraduate/post-experience study programme leading to graduate membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). Its primary aim is to enable participants to become competent personnel and development practitioners. The first year of the DHRM programme consists of the Certificate in Management (CM) course and leads to licentiate membership of the CIPD. The second year builds on the CM progressively and develops participants through the acquisition of additional knowledge and skills.

16. Master of Arts Human Resource Management (Part-time 1 year)

The course presents an opportunity for qualified human resource specialists and managers with substantial relevant experience to study Human Resource Management (HRM) subjects to Masters level. The MA (HRM) is a recognised qualification which provides evidence of an ability to work at a more strategic level in the HRM area.
The course develops an understanding of the relationship between HRM processes and strategic management. Care is taken to balance the rigorous academic content of the course, which comprises taught and research elements, with practical realities and environmental awareness. The modular nature of the programme provides maximum flexibility for course participants.

About the University and the Business School


The Business School is one of the largest schools within the University with over 150 academic staff and more than 500 postgraduate students on campus. The School regularly attracts students from over 40 countries onto its full-time, taught programmes. The School offers undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees. International students should note that student visa regulations may prevent them taking part time courses.
