The Exeter MBA

The aims of the Exeter MBA are:

  • To equip students with an understanding of organisations, their management and the changing external environment in which they operate, providing a stimulating introduction to the broad range of academic subjects that inform management studies.
  • To provide a framework to enable students to relate their business experience to contemporary management ideas and practice.

The full time programme lasts for 12 months with the part-time programme normally completed in two and a half years. Many students elect to follow the general MBA programme combining options in management, finance and marketing to match their specific areas of interest and prepare them for their chosen career paths. At Exeter, students also have the opportunity to follow one of two specialist MBA programmes in either finance or marketing.

Full time students complete ten modules over two semester periods along with an individual dissertation or business project. Part time students complete the same modules as full time students over a six semester, or two and a half year period.

Students on the general programme complete seven core modules plus three optional modules of the students choice. The optional modules cover a range of finance, marketing and management topics allowing students to tailor their MBA to cover areas they consider most relevant and interesting. The final dissertation can be completed on any area of management.

The success of the Exeter MBA relies on the interaction between staff and students and also between student and student. MBA modules are taught in a variety of ways with an emphasis on the development of personal and learning skills as well as subject knowledge.

We continually review the content of the programme, ensuring that it matches the demands placed on managers in today's fast moving global marketplace. Modules in place for 2001 include: Entrepreneurship, Marketing Communication and Strategic Brand Management, Leadership, Financial Services Marketing and E-commerce and, Managing Change and the New Economy.
