University of Stirling MBA
Department of Management & Organization

The Stirling MBA programme was established in 1985 and was then one of less than twenty full-time MBA PROGRAMMES / PROGRAMS / COURSES in the UK. It retains its position as one of the UK's top MBA PROGRAMMES / PROGRAMS / COURSES, with a strong emphasis on quality and professional standards, and a large international mix of students.

The Stirling MBA combines a broad base of core courses covering the major functions of business and management, a choice of elective courses enabling specialisation in an area of interest to be studied in depth, support courses to enhance managerial and professional skills, and the completion of a report or a dissertation, which will put theory into practice.

The eight core courses, six in the Autumn semester and two in the Spring semester, cover the broad spectrum of management functions and provide a solid foundation for the study of business, enabling students to integrate knowledge and skills from a number of different managerial disciplines. These eight core courses are compulsory for all students studying for the Diploma/MBA.

The University recognises that each student has individual plans and interests when studying for an MBA and gives him or her the opportunity to specialise in the area of interest or to opt for a more generalised degree. The programme is designed to offer a choice of electives which will enable the student to specialise in any of five MBA variants or pathways - Business Venture Management; International Business; Strategic Change Management; Operations & Quality Management; Corporate Finance & Marketing.

The University of Stirling was granted its Royal Charter in September 1967. It has established a sound and enviable reputation for innovation and excellence in business education in the UK. It took the lead in the UK in establishing a two-semester system, with the academic year beginning in mid-September. An extensive network of academic links exists between teaching and research staff in Stirling and academics, practising managers and professionals overseas, and from a wide range of industrial and commercial businesses.

The Faculty of Management at the University of Stirling is the largest of the University's four faculties, with over 1700 undergraduate students, 400 students following taught postgraduate PROGRAMMES / PROGRAMS / COURSES and around 70 research postgraduates. In successive Teaching Quality Assessments (TQA), the Departments in the Faculty have been highly praised for their teaching. Economics was rated 'Excellent', and all other Departments have achieved a 'Highly Satisfactory' assessment. In research, the Faculty has demonstrated excellence in a number of areas, such as accounting, finance and economics. The Faculty is proud of its record of expansion and achievement in teaching and research, and its very high levels of sustained quality.

The University campus is widely acknowledged as one of the most beautiful in the UK, with 60 acres of woodland, 300 acres of mature, landscaped parkland, a loch and a splendid 18th century castle. It lies two miles from the historic town of Stirling and there are excellent road and rail links to the major cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh, both of which are served by international airports.
